Sun Newspaper NG Covers the Adani Care Foundation 3rd Service Event

It was a day of joy and celebration at Amube Evuazu autonomous community in Obeleagu Umana, Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State, as over 500 less privileged residents benefited from a free medical outreach and food support initiative organized by the Adani Care Foundation.

The event, which was held between April 21 and 22, saw the distribution of more than 60 bags of rice to rural dwellers, while free medical consultations, treatments, and essential drugs were provided to the sick among them.

Speaking at the event, the founder of the foundation, Josephine Nneka, who was represented by the operations manager, Gladys Eze, reiterated the foundation’s mission to uplift underserved communities.

She said: “Our mission is to ensure that you have access to the essential services you need – medical care, food, clean water, and opportunities for a brighter future.

“We’ve provided over 430 screenings and critical medication to individuals in need, served 1,300 hot meals, distributed 100 bags of 50kg rice, and awarded nursing scholarships.”

Chairman of the occasion, Chief Emmanuel Aneke, commended the foundation’s intervention, describing it as timely and desperately needed.

“There is hunger in the country, excruciating hunger. Insecurity is at its peak. Farmers cannot go to their farms. Prices of foodstuffs have skyrocketed. People are dying due to lack of medical care. Adani Care Foundation, as always, came at the right time to give us succour and hope to our people,” he said.

The outreach was more than just food and medicine; the foundation also organized skill acquisition sessions for the youth and hosted an Easter celebration, ensuring plenty of food and drinks for everyone who attended.

The traditional ruler of Evuazu Obeleagu autonomous community, Igwe Christopher Egwu, was full of praise for the foundation’s efforts.

He said: “What is being done today is worthy of emulation. Our daughter has been doing this. Some who do not understand thought it was a joke. But for me, I feel like it was today that Jesus rose from the dead.

“The number of people this foundation has resuscitated in this community are too numerous to mention. That is why I am so happy with her because if our other daughters who are in different places do the same thing, the community will be transformed.

“It does not mean that she is the wealthiest, but she is because she has the milk of human kindness. She has empathy for her townsmen. That is why I am happy. I am saying that others should emulate her. As she is concerned about the plight of her people, God will be concerned about her.”

The leader of the medical team, Dr Eze Franklin, explained the scope of the healthcare services provided during the outreach.

“We are here today for medical outreach by Adani Care Foundation at Obeleagu, Amube Evuazu in Ezeagu LGA. We are looking at treating over 500 patients in these two days. We could get more in the subsequent outreaches.

“What we do here is emergency treatment for diabetic patients, hypertensive patients. There was a time we came here and we had an emergency. We had to resuscitate the person instantly. We treat so many other ailments. Special cases like orthopedic cases and eye issues are referred to teaching hospitals,” he said.

One of the patients, Cecilia Ugwu, who has been battling ulcer, expressed gratitude after receiving free tests, treatment, and medication.

“I am so happy. If you are asked to come and receive free medical care and you get there and they do as they said, you have no choice but to be happy.

“I also benefited from the rice distribution. I thank God who made our children have this kind of thought to help us. It will continue to be well with them,” she said.

Another patient, 46-year-old Obiora Nevoh, said he has been sick for a long time but he does not have the money to go to hospital.

“I have been feeling so bad. I have been sick. I can’t eat. I have had typhoid for a long time. The major problem is that there is no work. I am a bricklayer but there is no work. So going to the hospital is impossible.

“I have children and there is no money to even feed them. I thank God for these people who have provided this relief for me and my family. They have been giving us food and drugs. If not for this foundation, I don’t know what would have become of us.

Also Benedeth Eze, who has had protracted headache,  thanked the foundation for the drugs she was given.

“I explained the symptoms to the doctors and they gave me drugs. I have had constant headache for a very long time. My unine is always yellowish.

“The doctors examined me and gave me drugs. My prayer is that the God who has laid it in the hearts of these people to do this will bless them and bless their generation.

A beneficiary of the skills acquisition, 25-year-old Ebuka Chioke, who just finished secondary school, shared how the foundation’s intervention is about changing his life.

“I feel happy that they have accepted to pay for my training in the field of electrical engineering. My parents couldn’t afford the fee for the training but they have offered to take it up.

“I just finished secondary school and my parents do not have the money to sponsor me to attain higher education,” he said.

For the people of Amube Evuazu, it was a day hope was rekindled, health was restored, and the future looked a little brighter, all thanks to the compassion and commitment of the Adani Care Foundation.
